A Multicultural Wedding in Paris: Film Photography from Montmartre to the Seine

That morning, they got ready together. Just A+B, in their suite at Hôtel Monsieur Aristide: dark wood, a jukebox in the corner, garden light coming through the windows. As an analog wedding photographer based in France, I know these mornings well. Nothing has happened yet, and somehow everything is already there.

I shoot on 35mm film for a simple reason : it doesn't lie. No light added after the fact, no retouching that erases what should stay. The grain holds the light as it actually was: soft, quiet, slightly suspended, cinematic. The kind of light that comes through a Montmartre garden on a July morning.

A multicultural destination wedding in Paris: two cultures, one celebration

A+B are complementary. Two personalities who come together in a shared love of warmth and celebration. Their wedding carried that : Algerian and Italian influences running through the day, Hamidou, disco, raï ; two different families celebrating together in a way that felt completely natural.

This is what I love about photographing multicultural weddings on analog film in France : the moments that belong only to that day, to those two families, to that particular mix of cultures and personalities. They don't repeat. Film doesn't either.

Civil ceremony at the 9th arrondissement

The civil ceremony was intimate and quiet, surrounded by their close friends and families, very much them. The light, the glances, the silence just before their yes, I do.

Evening on the Reef Club barge, Boulogne-Billancourt

The day ended on the Seine in Boulogne-Billancourt. Reena on the decks, a disco-funk-raï atmosphere, two families still dancing late into the night. Festive, relaxed, elegant, exactly what they wanted.
